Proposed EverPower wind farm would be in Hardin, Logan counties
Description:
The company behind both phases of the Buckeye Wind Farm project in Champaign County is planning to develop another wind farm project in two nearby counties.
Through Hardin Wind, LLC, a subsidiary of EverPower Wind Holdings, Inc., the company is proposing to develop the Scioto Ridge Wind Farm. Currently in the pre-application stage, the wind farm is proposed to consist of up to 180 wind turbines and related equipment, including collection lines, access roads and a substation, according to the Ohio Power Siting Board’s website.
The project would be located in the townships of Roundhead, McDonald, Lynn and Taylor Creek in Hardin County, as well as the townships of Richland and Rush Creek in Logan County.
A pre-application notification letter to the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) by Hardin Wind LLC attorney Michael J. Settineri states the proposed project will be located on 17,000 acres of leased land and is expected to have a nameplate capacity of 300 megawatts.
The letter states the number of turbines installed will depend on their rated capacity in order to reach a total of 300 megawatts.
Jason Dagger, project manager for EverPower, said Monday the company plans to submit an application for the project to the Ohio Power Siting Board this summer and hopes to be under construction with the project in 2015.
A public informational meeting was held on May 29 at the American Legion Building, Belle Center, and Dagger said the company has spoken with county commissioners in both counties about turbine locations, a construction time line and a project time line.
According to a PUCO press release from June 6, two other wind farm projects in Hardin County include the Hardin Wind Farm and Hog Creek Wind Farm I and II. These projects have been approved by the Ohio Power Siting Board.
The OPSB approved a certificate May 28 allowing for the construction of 52 wind turbines as part of the second phase of the Buckeye Wind Farm in Champaign County. Both phases of the project involve construction of more than 100 turbines in eastern Champaign County.
Following the board’s decision, Champaign County commissioners along with Goshen, Union and Urbana townships asked the county prosecutor’s office to ask for a rehearing to address concerns about the project. Jack Van Kley, attorney for citizens group Union Neighbors United, stated the group plans to appeal the board’s decision to the state Supreme Court.
With the addition of the second phase of the Buckeye Wind Farm, the OPSB has approved certificates for 10 wind farms across the state totaling 639 turbines and 1,302 megawatts of generation capacity.
An amendment to the first phase of the project is pending before the OPSB. Six entities have intervened the amendment.
